Film Magazine Front Cover Final

This is our Film Magazine front cover for our own Film Magazine named 'Film Frenzy' we decided to name it this as it sounded catchy and memorable due to the alliteration and we thought we would have two words instead of one as it utilises the page space better but we also noticed in our research how 'Total Film' magazine had also done this therefore we followed media conventions by this. We decided to use a colour scheme within our taglines of grey, red and white to emphasise the horror-esque theme of this particular issue but we also only used just three colours so that our audience would not be distracted from what is intended to attract in taglines for example 'Top Ten Villians of the Decade'- We used 'Top Ten Villians of the Decade' to again connote the horror theme and focus the issue around our character that stars in our film 'Avenge'. We also used some of our classmates film names 'La Femme', 'Unbalanced' and 'Snapshot Reloaded' to use examples of promotion and advertising films. We used Jimmy (our main star) as the main image on the front for the audience's attention to be mainly focused on him. We used typical media conventions as we imported a barcode, date of issue, price and country of sale on our magazine front cover as magazines of all genres include these aspects. We also decided to include a website 'filmfrenzyonline.com' on the front of the magazine that the audience could access to use an example of viral marketing.

  1. What were the influences that led to your choice of magazine name?
Does it fulfill your plans? Does it work as a magazine cover? What's good and what's bad?

  2. The influences that led us to name our film magazine front cover ‘Film Frenzy’ were viewing names of other film magazines, the main examples were ‘Empire’ and ‘Total Film’ but also less well known film magazines ‘Sight and Sound’ and ‘Moviescope’, these helped us to figure out some ideas and inspirations for a name for our own magazine. It helped to make a list of names that we thought would work for a film magazine front cover, here are some of the ideas that we thought of and had to choose from: ‘Film Fan’, ‘Film File’, ‘Film Frenzy’, ‘Movie Muse’, ‘Movie Max/ Max Movie’, ‘Film Faith’ and ‘Follow Film’. Grace and I liked the idea of our name being alliterative as it enables the film magazine to be catchy therefore we selected ‘Film Frenzy’ out of these names as we thought it was appropriate as it targeted our target audience well (15-25). The ideas for our film magazine front cover have not been changed immensely from the start of our planning e.g. we kept with our name ‘Film Frenzy’ and knew that we still wanted our villain to remain on the front in character as we designed it this way in rough drafts, from this Grace suggested that we then develop our front cover into a ‘villains issue’, I thought this was a very good idea as it was this appropriate considering our genre and audience as it emphasises the idea of horror furthermore. The downfall to our magazines and changes that we wish we had made were the way in which we dressed our actor. We realise now that a shirt and tie or all in one suit would have been more suitable and looked much more professional as many film magazines spend months planning what their actor/actress are going to be sporting on the front cover meaning that the audience is then attracted to the front cover of the magazines as the majority of the time what they are dressed in is very eye catching. Therefore we have evaluated how we should have thought more in depth and planned more than we should have before shooting this.
